Two perennial favorites available to Americans looking for a high-value compact car are the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. The 2017 Corolla has been upgraded by new front- and rear-end design, new grille, new headlights, a more upscale interior and access to Toyota’s Safety Sense-P safety suite. Both cars are dependable, economical vehicles with high resale value. The two cars are closely matched in many respects, so the best way to choose between them is to test-drive them both. Once you do, we’re confident you’ll prefer the updated 2017 Toyota Corolla.
The dimensions of Corolla and Civic are roughly comparable, with almost identical overall lengths and wheel bases. The Corolla stands a little taller. The biggest difference between the two is rear legroom. Second row passengers will greatly prefer riding in the Corolla, which provides an extra 4 inches of legroom, 41.4 inches versus 37.4 inches, respectively. On long excursions, those extra four inches can make a big difference in comfort. The Corolla also has a tighter turning diameter and a larger gas tank.
The 2017 Toyota Corolla LE Eco and the 2016 Honda Civic LX offer a comparable list of standard and optional features. There are a few differences, however. For example, the Corolla LE Eco comes standard with a CD player and a driver’s knee airbag, which are not available on the Civic LX. A navigation system and Siri Eyes Free are options on the LE, but once again not available on the LX. The 2017 Corolla for the first time offers the Toyota Safety Sense P safety system, which combines millimeter wave radar mounted on the front grille with an in-vehicle camera to increase functionality and performance. Safety Sense P includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection function, Vehicle Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist function, Automatic High Beams, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Both the Corolla and Civic come with a rear-view camera
The 2017 model year for the Toyota Corolla will offer a special edition vehicle. Civic didn’t offer any special models for 2016. The Corolla 50th Anniversary Special Edition is available in a Black Cherry exterior/interior color with special floor mats and badging. The Special Edition is based on the Corolla SE. It’s also available in white and silver exteriors. About 8,000 of these beauties will be sold, so if you’re interested, contact us right away.
